A single call & 2 Unexpected letters

Today was my first day back at work after our holiday and what a day it was - as I drove to work it was dark and lashing it down with rain and all I wanted to do was to turn the car around, drive back home and snuggle back under the duvet in the warm with my book.

I knew work would be quiet today as I would be on my own in my part of the office so, in anticipation I brought my radio in. After ploughing through 96 emails I started on the post which took me to around lunch time. At lunchtime I surfed the net and came up with some cheap Travelodge deals for our trip up to Norfolk in October. I also sent off for two self catering cottage brochures in order to plan next years holiday - we are thinking of going to the Peak District next time.

The phones at work today were amazingly quiet. I was looking after 4 phones and I took one call all day! The few weeks before the new term starts really are the dead zone. Drove home at the end of the day with a bad headache though - it must be getting used to staring at a VDU all day again.

When I got home I found two really nice pieces of mail (amazing for this household). One a note from a friend I haven't heard from in years which was really nice. I love receiving proper handwritten letters. The second piece of mail was from a relative of Peter's - Brian Kneller - who is getting married to a rather exotically named lady called Ravilla Sariano (Ruby for short) on 9 October in Somerset. I texted Peter to tell him and he said he hadn't seen Brian for about 20 years so I think he is quite amazed to get an invite. I'm not sure if we'll go or not - I'd quite like to - after all I've hardly met any of Peters side of the family and he's met about 100 of mine! Scary stuff I know Anne - do I really want to delve any deeper into the Olding/Kneller clan I hear you cry!!! However, it would mean a stay in Somerset so we'll have to consider the cost implications so close to our trip to Norfolk I guess.

Peter is at a football match until later so I'm sat here waiting for the Sainsburys delivery van to arrive - I wish he'd hurry up as I want to change into my slob-out clothes but can't really do that until he's been and gone - don't want to give him too much of a shock after all.

God I'm tired, this whole work thing is a drag you know. Why can't we win the lottery and then I can spend my days keeping house and making jam (dream on!)

Are you two going Anne? Yes the invitation was rather neon and with a little love statement and a picture too! Everyone seems to be quite gushing these days - my best friend's brother has sent out invites to his wedding with a picture of him and his intended snogging in the middle of the card (not something I'd want to see over my cornflakes!) When Peter and I finally get hitched it will be a simple invitation design I promise!

I'm quite keen to go but I'm not so sure Peter is - I think he believes he will get nagged by Brian's mum for not getting in touch for 20 years (the usual family stuff). I imagine Denise might like to go as she is very keen on family bonding - but it's a long way for her to travel.

Ooh, no, Sue - not Lord H's thing. You know what the Oldings are like!! He's with Peter on this one! And, to be fair, we're likely to be on hols that week (have just booked it off at work!!).

Glad to know your design will be tasteful and elegant. I expected nothing else, of course!

Hugs

It just all strange to me. I think I've only spoken Brian once. It was just to say 'Hi, I'm your cousin' and that 25 years ago when we were at college. Has Lord H ever spoken to him?

I know that his step-mum was keen to keep in contact with us all. Wonder how much is her doing... Its just the constant nagging from relatives moaning about why I haven't been in touch recently. One of them even contacted a friend of mine to get him to moan to me as to why I haven't been in touch for ages. HELLO!! its just as easy for you to conatct me as it is for me to contact you..

Hmmm - I guess that means we are not going (reading between the lines and all that!)

I guess it would have been a big expense anyway for someone you hardly know!.
